Days are getting shorter from here on out, Reader,
...And the birds lost the World Series. You may or may not know, but I do some freelance design work for the team, which is a little fun fact about me.
Yesterday, while being bummed heartbroken about that devastating loss, I was looking at a guide I helped work on back in 2023. It was a guide meant for minor league players joining the Toronto Blue Jays, providing information about the team, and the many, manyyy coaches they have available to them while preparing for their games to lead them to the major leagues.
The Blue Jays mission statement is on the third page, and it only reads:
Get better every day to bring the World Series Championships to Canada
This group worked their butts off to bring the Championship to Canada. And definitely the power of friendship played a part. They may not have won the title, but they definitely won the hearts of so many, myself included.
So... what makes a team like the Blue Jays so solid? How can we use what these professional athletes do to get ourselves on the mat, moving, and doing our best? Well, I’ve made a list. And I hope you’ll help me add to it.
1. You tune into what your body is telling you
If you feel like you have some extra energy or want to work through some emotions, a hard workout could be great in the moment. If you're feeling sluggish, but know your joints would thank you for some movement, you can just do some small mobility exercises for just a minute.
2. You desire yourself on the other side
You're giving yourself the chance to dream about what is possible. Getting on the floor with your grandkids, hiking that trail with the gorgeous viewpoint, having energy, sleeping soundly, and knowing you can do all you want to do without your body stopping you.
3. You lean on your community
We cannot do it all; sometimes we have to have a friend give us a quick pep talk or remind us it's ok to rest, booking a call with me to figure out the roadblocks, or even go to a group class to feel the energy of others.
We all have hard days when it comes to moving our bodies. But I think if you have these 3 things in your backpocket, you’re bound to see some success.
What would you add to my list Reader?
